Sewing Environment At Home

My Little Sewing Environment At Home

My sewing environment is set up, when I sew in my dining room, its where I cut patterns, fabric, pin, iron, press etc.  Unlike, some of the various sewing studios I have seen on some websites or blogs I have visited online and like very much.  It has been for many years now.  It's also where I sewed in my parents house too, prior to marriage and having children.  I don't sew as much as I used to during in the years 1970s - 1990s  were I sewed all the time.  Most weekends you will find me sewing something.   In recent years, I am trying to get back into it by doing much small projects then back when I was working in the 1980s - 1990s.  I would like very much to have that momentum as I had back then.   I sewed back then most of my clothing and workwear for the office.  I don't have much to show of all the sewing, accept for memory of some of the things sewed, like dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, tops, blouses etc. unlike today we all have cameras that we take picture of everything and then post it somewhere online. (Smile)

I also ventured out a few years ago to do the online course at Penn Foster Dressmaking And Design which I have not completed, but someday hoping to complete as a personal goal to achieve of completing.

I also love reading sewing books and magazines; collecting sewing patterns to which sometimes I do get a chance to make and sometimes I don't.

Here is a picture of me in an outfit I made for me to wear to my son's graduation.  The only recent outfit as seen here, which I plan to do a blog post of very soon.  Picture of me and my children.

The sewing machine seen here is a Singer 7426 which belonged to my mother which she purchased a couple of years prior to her passing which I borrowed one day from her and fell in love with it.  It reminded me of the Singer one she and I used to use prior to me getting married.

Thank You!

Have a good day!

Back of Cosmetic Bag

Just gathered this cosmetic bag from my sewing projects done a few years ago and decided to blog post it here within this blog post as good project ideas.  Cosmetic Bag made with the purchase of Fat Quarters normally purchased for quilting projects.  I didn't get to quilt it but it has quilting batting which enhances the softness to the fabric with a cuddling effect.

Thank You

Have A Good Day!

Mini Quilt Warm Up With 4 x 4 Inch Squares

Mini Quilt Warm Up With 4 x 4 Inch Squares

Cotton Fabric (size approximately 8 x 8 inches)
Fusible Featherweight Interfacing
Pattern square 4 x 4 inches
Backing 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 (approximately)
Thread

This week I had the notion or impulse of making a mini quilt to warm up to some sewing again, and started browsing through some old magazines from Quilts and More (Better Homes and Gardens Creative Collection of Summer 2007) which had cut out patterns in the magazine.  There was a square pattern there of 4 x 4 inches which I thought, let me cut this out and look for some scraps of fabric that was handy to which I cut out 4 squares of the pattern and sewed them together at a 1/4 inch seam.  Pressed each seam accordingly.  Then cut out a backing and interfacing of about 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches.  Pressed the interfacing to the wrong side of the backing fabric, then matched it to the quilting of the sewed 4 squares with right sides together.  Stitched accordingly,  leaving about a 3 inch opening for turning inside out.  Pressed,  split and trimmed the corners and turned it inside out. Pressed and top stitched about 1/4 inch.

Here are the photos to this Mini Quilt.
